As quickly as the Texas Antique Weekend has begun, it is
drawing to a close.
The day started with all of the shows open for business and by the evening many
closed with dealers packing and heading for home.
AntiqueWeekend.com spent most of the day Saturday visiting with dealers and friends at all three of the Round Top Antique Fair Show locations. Starting in Round Top we enjoyed the exceptionally high quality dealers and displays at the Gun Club (one of which is pictured above). Emma Lee Turney never disappoints! The rain had little effect as evidenced by the hall and two tents packed with exhibitors and buyers. Then it was on to the Annex tent and Folk Art Fair. This single event is worth the entire $7 admission, which is good for all three of the show locations (considering the free parking, that's quite a bargain!). The folk art was absolutely wonderful. Out of respect for the artists we didn't take any photos, but you should really have seen it in person to appreciate their creative craft. And last, but certainly not least, we visited the Carmine Dance Hall. Another great venue for early American and primitive furniture, silver, prints and more. Food and refreshments were available at the Gun Club and Carmine Dance Hall.
The weather today started and ended wet and cold. We felt the first rain at about 6:30am this morning and it continued to rain all the way through Fayetteville's Midnight Madness sales. This year Fayetteville added a new show at the SPJST Hall, a great warm and dry location with lots of free parking and hours extended to midnight along with more than a half-dozen Fayetteville antique shops. Even the Fayetteville Heritage Museum was open most of the night.
The weather did take it's toll on the various field shows with some dealers packing up early. However, there were still hundreds and hundreds of dealers toughing it out and umbrella toting buyers making their way from place to place.
Although many shows closed today an equal number of shows will continue through Sunday.
