The Fun Has Begun!

The Texas Antique Weekend is off and running!

The day started with nice warm sunshine that helped dry out the soggy ground left from several days of mid-week rain.  Later we had some cloud cover, but NO MORE RAIN!  Yeah!  Oh sure, we did see a truck or two pushed out of the mud by a friendly tractor, but all and all weather hasn't 'dampened' this event.

There was a time when Antique Weekend was one show and one weekend each spring and fall.  Those years, however, have long passed.  Oh sure, those original shows are still operating, and bigger than ever, but a lot of others have joined the party.  And boy, do we mean LOTS of others!

Today we checked on the progress of the Big Red Barn scheduled to open next week between Round Top and Carmine on SH-237.  The building looks pretty close, but any more rain might make access and parking a little more challenging.  Even today however crews were working hard to have all the finishing touches complete for opening day.

After making a tour of the popular show sites, we headed into the fields of Warrenton where shoppers were already loading up all kinds of purchases.  We visited with dealers from as far away as Germany and France; and as close as La Grange, Texas.  Proving that it's a small world, we met a dealer from Bolivar, a small Missouri community where David's great-grandfather and family lived in 1900.

This is going to be a spectacular year for wildflowers.  There was lots of rain at just the right times this year to ensure that the hills and roadsides will be alive with color.  The wildflowers are a wonderful bonus for taking the time to drive into the Texas countryside.

Yesterday started the Antique Weekend preview sales (March 30th, 31st and April 1st), followed by a week of shows and sales that lead up to the April 6 & 7th HUGE Texas Antique Weekend.
